American Heritage is an ongoing series of lectures and discussions that offer new perspectives on the role of African-Americans in American History. This is the first installment dealing with the African diaspora.The African presence in Mexico is rarely recognized or wildly known. Two hundred years before the United States abolished slavery, a community of free Blacks was established in the 1600â€™s in what is now Veracruz, Mexico. As a result, issues of nationalism, color and race are integral to the discussion of what it means to be Mexican. Join the CD Forum and a panel of experts as we discuss historical and contemporary issues of Afromestizo identity.

Moxie and Brain Grenade Entertainment Present Moxieâ€™s â€œNourishing The Artsâ€ a fundraising evening for local Seattle singer/songwriter Kristin Chambers.

Seattle, WA â€" November 15th 2008, / Brain Grenade Entertainment./ On Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 from 5pm â€" 2am an unprecedented 25% of Moxie's sales will be donated to an artist that is making a difference as she goes after her dreams while supporting a charity she believes in at the same time.

25% of all sales that day will be donated to Kristin Chambers, an artist that is working with Brain Grenade Entertainment LLC (BGE) and producer Loren Weisman on an FSRP recording project. FSRP (Freedom Solutions Recording Plan) is a new style of releasing an artist to the public.

The Freedom Solutions Recording Plan empowers an artist to create an industry caliber product at a grassroots budget while maintaining control over their music, image, and career. The BGE team works with artists to budget every dollar and account for every minute to make the plan as effective as possible. Blending musical goals with philanthropy, BGE designs a fundraising plan for artists to acquire the needed budget of a recording while advancing a cause of their choice by pledging a percentage of profits to charity.

Kristin is bringing the presence of her creativity and versatility beyond the music to charity as well; 25% of the profits from this album will be donated to a breast cancer organization.

Kristin Chambers is a Seattle Washington based singer/songwriter with an infectious passion for the live stage. With her extensive training and background in the arts, she is often described as a vocal chameleon as her voice is able to shift through a wide spectrum with ease. Kristin Chambers delivers her songs with a voice rooted in skill and elevated by passion.

Moxie is located at 530 1st Avenue North in the lower Queen Anne section of Seattle. Serving modern American cuisine in a warm, casual setting, Moxie offers an eclectic menu and a global wine list that changes seasonally. The full menu, as well as specialty cocktails, wine, and beer, are also available at the bar. Reservations are recommended for this evening. Moxie is open daily, except Monday's, from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am with a "happy hourâ€ featuring drink specials between 8 and 10pm nightly and Brunch from 10-2 on Saturday and Sunday.

Like a broken iPod, Shuffle Mode is intentionally glitchy, providing no clear-cut answers but erasing, through its very existence, false boundaries, jumping erratically between genres and conjuring the very spirit of modern music. Dance split bill featuring work by Camille A. Brown and the US Premiere of Makeda Thomasâ€™ new solo work FreshWater, co-commissioned by the CD Forum.

Camille A. Brownâ€™s choreography is a â€œtour de forceâ€ and â€œrevealsâ€ an arresting individuality as both choreographer and performer. Her work focuses on combining elements of both contemporary and West African movement to dialogue about issues pertaining to the human spirit and its often deep, enlightening, and even humorous journey through life. Ms. Brown has received commissions from Hubbard Street II, Urban Bush Women, Ailey II, among others. She received the Princess Grass Award in Choreography, a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant, and the Presidential Scholar in the Arts Award in Dance.

Makeda Thomas choreographs works that cross boundaries between contemporary modern and traditional dance. Fresh Water takes its title from the Trinidadian term for someone who talks, dresses or acts American without having gone overseas (crossing salt water). The term also serves to remind someone who may have indeed gone overseas that they are still Caribbean. Created in the midst of returning home to Trinidad after 20 years living abroad, it is a deeply personal work.

Between July 31st and August 7th in 2010 the Gay Games VIII will take place in Cologne, Germany. Thousand of international participants from all over the world are expected to take part in this sport and cultural event. Participant figures are reaching almost Olympic size.
